Amanda was abandoned, so searching for her birth family wasn’t possible. I’m so had you met your birth mother.

My sons are adopted from South Korea too, but in our world adoption was never considered a “ last resort”, it was a new beginning for all of us and I cherish every moment. We were meant to be. ??

It is so heartwarming to hear these stories. For our 37 yr old son’s BD I gave him the e mail for Post Adoption Services and hopefully he will follow up on it and maybe this is the catalyst that will give him peace. He is a good man but needs some closure I feel. He seems to be stuck in teenage mode and attitude. He loves his siblings and their kids so much but because of having to live here at home, he has an attitude towards us. He’s more like a boarder but not all the time. 12 years ago he suffered a four wheeler accident in the mountains and was life flighted to our hospital where we met him. His friends had saved his life…2 of them have since died in skiing accidents. We were with him all night for his cranial surgery and he spent 5 days in ICU. He came home and recovered well. Then about 5 years ago he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, one side, had surgery and chemo. He’s fine There have been outstanding college and medical bills but he never talks to us about it . He has a good job, many friends, a fit and healthy 6 footer but we’re hoping that this possibility of birth info will help him feel whole about his life. I had hoped to present him with those facts but getting them has to be done by him. We are so great flu to Holt for this son from Korea. We had 4 kids born to us, and later 2 Viet refugee teens. We almost adopted again, thru the State, from Taiwan but God had other plans.

I am a Korean adoptee and will be visiting Korea and Holt next month (for the first time) and have a plethora of emotions nor know what to expect. Nonetheless, I am excited for the opportunity to visit Korea, extremely grateful for my American life, and I’m anxious to see how this journey will impact my future.

Both of your wonderful mothers must be so proud of you. Thank you for sharing your path and inspiring others to follow theirs.

Two years ago my son, at age 18, was fortunate enough to meet his birth mother. The situation was complicated and she almost did not agree to the meeting, but when Holt shared with her the letters and pictures we have sent for the past 18 years on his birthday, she agreed. She had been worried he would hate her. He does not. And it was an incredible blessing for me to meet her, for I, too, as an adoptive mom, had a fantasy about his birthmother and a feeling of connection with this woman about whom I knew almost nothing. We are both glad the meeting happened. Now my 18 year old daughter will go this summer and search is happening right now. We pray she may make contact with some family as we have seen how it helped our son. We are so thankful to Holt Korea for their work on our children’s behalf.

As an adoptive mother blessed with the gift of raising two amazing daughters born in Korea, I often have thought of the sacrifice of my daughters birthmother. It must have been very comforting to your birthmother to learn her daughter has grown to be a loving, caring beautiful young woman who has had much happiness in her life.
