Kids can be so brutally honest. I was adopted by an interracial couple as my father is Caucasian and my mother his Hispanic! Try explaining this! It is difficult to be different when you are a child but I can tell you it is a blessing when you grow up. Although we may not understand at the time of how we can grow from negative experiences, as an adult, we understand how our experiences make us who we are! A lesson that sometimes takes a lifetime to learn. God Bless…

I am so glad you survived the ignorance of your peers, and to turn the racism and meanness into your own strengths. I, myself, grew up in the South, (GA and NC) and was outcast for speaking against racism and sexism, even though I was white. Even now, in more liberal Oregon, we face ignorance in the guise of liberalism. Please know that there are those of us who will never give up trying to make a better world, and teach ourselves and each other to become better, more loving, accepting and respectful, compassionate people. Thanks for sharing your story with us all!

It could not have been easy to grow up in an environment where you were the only minority. I know you will carry that lesson, and many you have learned along the way, in helping fellow adoptees. I love that picture of you and your brother, I can tell you are close.
